Marine officer Maj. Megan McClung became the highest ranking female officer to be killed in Iraq. Its no easy task to become a Marine, let alone a Marine Officer, let alone the highest ranking female service member to go into theater.
After graduating the Naval Academy (class of '95) McClung was assigned to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. On December 6 2006 her convoy hit an IED, McClung died at age 34.
With 1st Marine McClung had a creed that she and those under her charged lived by 'Be bold, be brave, be gone.' Maj. McClung was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
